The purpose of this blog is to open a dialogue among friends about our faith(s). My hope is that this will help us understand each other better and be edified together. While I am not opposed to confronting our beliefs and understanding of doctrine, I think the main purpose of this blog should be to share rather than to confront or to convince. May that sharing strengthen our friendship, enlighten our minds and bring us each closer to God.

Become as Little Children
In Matthew 18:3, Christ says, "Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." Interestingly, there is a very similar passage in the Book of Mormon: 3 Nephi 11:38--"ye must repent, and be baptized in my name, and become as a little child, or ye can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God." What do you think that means? In what ways should we become as little children? What would a childlike person be like?

Recently, I’ve been studying second-language acquisition. As you probably know, children learn languages better than adults. There are many hypotheses about why that is—unentrenched neuro-pathways, a biological predisposition to language-learning, etc. We obviously can’t control those things; however, there may be other childlike qualities that adults can emulate—confidence in one’s ability to succeed, trust in the teacher, a non-judgmental attitude (towards others and towards oneself), willingness to try, etc. As I’ve thought about it, I’ve come to believe that we should strive to emulate those same characteristics as we attempt to “acquire” the language of divine love.
